Housing Committee Update – May 6, 2020 - Weinland Park Community Civic Association

The civic association’s Housing Committee will not meet this month. Instead we offer some brief updates on development and land use in Weinland Park:

Here is a brief summary of our progress on Grant Avenue:

Townhomes/Duplexes: 40 of 40 are sold or in contract. We have officially broken ground on last 10 Townhomes that are located North of the Duplexes, South of our Phase 3 Apartment. These Townhomes will likely go on sale within the next 1 to 2 months.
Apartments: We are on schedule to be completed with our Phase 3 of apartments by the end of the year. We have broken ground on the 42 apartment units that are located on the West side of 5th & Grant. These units will likely be complete Q1 2020.

From OSU’s Campus Partners:

We had a total of 13 offers on the duplexes, some for just one and several for both. We entered into contract with a local investor with a strong track record of renovations particularly with duplexes. We are getting through the due diligence now with a planned closing on May 18th.

Regarding the construction of new affordable homes by the city land trust:

Laura Bidwa will get an update from Hope Paxson later this week, to be shared later this month.
Land trust homes in other parts of Columbus are being listed now in MLS

Regarding the creation of Joyce Hughes Park:

JHP committee chair Michael Wilkos is working toward a digital presentation of park plans to the full civic association membership this month. An invitation to that presentation will be shared with this housing committee email list when it is available.

Regarding CPO’s plans for the former D&J Carryout at 4th and 8th:

The committee has not received any information about the nature of the building-condition problem that we were told had been discovered in February, other than that Campus Partners is assisting CPO in assessing the situation.
